Untitled Sony/Marvel project dated for 2021

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios may not have announced more Spider-Man films after barely putting together a continuing shared rights deal in the summer, but they are moving forward with more loosely connected projects.

Sony announced today that an untitled project will release on Oct. 8, 2021.

Rumours have begun to swirl as to which project this could be. Spider-Man 3 with Tom Holland will release on July 16, 2021, but Sony has also been eyeing a Sinister Six film as well as Spider-Woman.

A Sinister Six film would bring Michael Keaton’s Vulture and Michael Mando’s Mac Gargan/Scorpion back into the fold, and because of the nature of the character, Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio could return as well. The remaining three members are generally Rhino, Electro and Doctor Octopus, but those characters have yet to be brought into the movies (at least this generation).

Morbius will release in October and will contain connections to both Venom and Spider-Man: Far From Home where Peter Parker is still on the run for being framed for the murder of Quentin Beck/Mysterio.

Andy Serkis recently wrapped production on Venom 2 with Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson. The film will showcase a Venom versus Carnage showdown that fans have been clamouring for since Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 in 2007.

More information on the Sony film will become available over the coming year.
