Robert Iger has stepped down as the CEO of the Walt Disney Company effective immediately after serving as head of the media powerhouse for 15 years.
“With everything else falling into place, the time seemed right,” Iger said in a call with Disney investors (source).
Iger had been waiting for both the launch of Disney+, the new online streaming service, and the merger with 20th Century Fox to conclude before giving serious thought to stepping back.

Under Iger’s leadership, Disney managed to rebuild relationships with PIXAR after its previous CEO, Michael Eisner, nearly destroyed the partnership. Disney also acquired Marvel Entertainment, Lucasfilm and all related Star Wars content, and most recently, 20th Century Fox and all of its film assets.
More to come.
